Meme nicked from [livejournal.com profile] absinthefairy88, though I was too lazy to repost at the time (only a few days ago...) Supposedly, if you've seen 85 or more of the films on this list, you have no life.

I've seen 86. Oops.

For the list, and to find out what I've been watching, clickity click right here... )

(Shh, don't tell anyone, but I'm trying to keep the "week" part of the two LJ ones (fic and reality) anyway... Which means one of each between every Monday and Sunday, as per my diary. Fingers crossed?)

So, dose of reality. Lali is back at uni. She was dragged back (kicking and screaming) by her mother and brother, who heartlessly unloaded the car, dumped her and her belongings into her room, and drove off laughing while she chased them desperately and begged them not to leave her here.

More or less.

Anyway, lectures start up again tomorrow, and without someone else to follow around and no opportunity to go, "Sooo, whatcha doin' now? Watching ____? Cool. I'll sit here, then," I'm rather at a loss. Hello LJ, friend of students and insomniacs everywhere...

And now, for your delectation, a meme. S'far as I remember I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] rosy_dawn. Correct me if I'm wrong.

A questionny meme, at that. )

And I fail epically at actually getting stuff done. Just to say.

(Also, when you start misreading adverts as: "Hurry, while socks last!" you know it's time to go sleep...)
laligin: (Default)
*fidget* So much fanfic to write. And filk, actually. (For those not in the know, that's the fine art of putting fandom appropriate words to well known songs, or generally making fandom songs. I include poetry in there, though I'm not sure that's entirely correct. Still, you can kinda sing/rap (horror!) rhyming couplets, so...)

Still sulking about [livejournal.com profile] writerinadrawer, by the way.

And it is so incredibly difficult to get online these days. Whenever I have time, my brother's on instead. He's so used to me not being here that I'm not factored into the PC-usage equation any more. Frustrating.

All this might go some way to explaining the new result when I retook an old test. The encouragingly titled "Are You Depressed" test. Original result, 30th December 2006 - Your Depression Level: 0%. Nice. New result, 12th June, 2008 - Your Depression Level: 68%. (You seem to have moderate depression. Your symptoms are bad enough that they're effecting your everyday life. You would benefit greatly from professional help. First off, they're AFFECTING my everyday life, not EFFECTING it. Secondly, you are but an internet test, how dare you tell me to seek professional help! Even Ianto only went to online counselling, and that's hardly professional! What do you think: new result, your depression level 30%, your anger level 150%...)

On a more positive note, having been lost and despairing with fanfic and books in general for quite a while, I'm rather enjoying (I'm not very far in, things could go horribly wrong yet) Scott Lynch's Lies of Locke Lamora. There have been a couple of moments of really startling originality and imagination so far, which have left me so astounded and delighted (and horrifically jealous) I've had to put the book down and go find my mum to tell her about them.

They're also going some way to feeding the poor, neglected, starving little original-fic plotbunnies I've been tending for years now. They've begun to pick up, get a little more bright-eyed, and multiply again. (Why did they not do this when I had coursework to do? Honestly...)

So, lots of fanfic to write, a few original-fic ideas to nurture, and... oh. A meme to complete. :P

So, nabbed from [livejournal.com profile] gogo_didi: (and taking the "wouldn't kick out of bed" to mean exactly what it says, teddy-bear list to follow)

List 10 fictional characters you wouldn't kick out of bed (in no particular order) and tag five people to do the same.

1. Ianto Jones (Torchwood)
2. Captain Jack Harkness (Torchwood, Doctor Who)
3. Toshiko Sato (Torchwood (Doctor Who!))
4. Ilya Kuryakin (Man From U.N.C.L.E)
5. Benton Fraser (Due South)
6. Murphy (Remington Steele)
7. Spencer Reid (Criminal Minds)
8. Daniel Jackson (Stargate)
9. MacGyver (duh)
10. Fai (Tsubasa)

Um. I must be being dense. I can't think who else. Books, films, further TV programs, no one springs to mind... And my fictional characters don't count... (Sorry guys. Liri, please, don't go for the knives... It's not my fault, I tell you!)

Amendment! I have my tenth. If cartoon/anime characters count, that is...

*waves hands* Five random people on my friends list, consider yourselves tagged. Yes, you!
laligin: (Default)
Let me get this straight.

[livejournal.com profile] phantomreviewer wants 8 random facts about me.
[livejournal.com profile] pinkfairy727 wants 8 random facts about me.
[livejournal.com profile] gogo_didi wants 8 random facts about me.
[livejournal.com profile] dr_is_in wants 8 random facts about me.

Does this mean I have to do 32? :P

Lots (and lots) of random facts about Lali (You brought this on yourselves) )

Ooh, quarter to two in the morning. Man, I'm going to regret putting some of those facts in there when I wake up again. (: Oh well. Cathartic it has been, interesting it probably isn't, but a meme done (overlong on every fact, I reckon) it most certainly is.

And I tag...

[livejournal.com profile] beccaelizabeth, [livejournal.com profile] daphne121, [livejournal.com profile] donutsweeper, [livejournal.com profile] hellenebright, [livejournal.com profile] mara_202, [livejournal.com profile] ranamag, [livejournal.com profile] shadowbyrd, [livejournal.com profile] shirafuzzy

'cause I want to see what you lot come up with. (:

Yay, bedtime now. ^_^
laligin: (Default)
Last week - the 10th of December - marked precisely one year since my first Torchwood fic found its way onto the internet.

Being swamped with university coursework at the time (last week, not last year...) I didn't get round to making a celebratory post. So here it is now. :)

I've gone and had a look around my journal, and my "fic - torchwood" tag apparently has 55 uses. Just give me a second while I work that out...

Discounting the multiple chapters of Jack's Capture and adding in the comment-posted-fics in Thirty Flavours (which is still going, by the way, and will be finished at some point...), by my reckoning that's 66 individual fics, with maybe only seven being drabbles. Not bad, really. Considering I have been a bit busy...

Oh, and as [livejournal.com profile] shadowbyrd mentioned in her Anniversary post, we posted Fine Lines on the 10th December (my second fic that night...), right before Random Shoes aired (with seconds to spare) and offered virtual cookies to anyone who guessed who'd done which sections.

She's confessed, so I suppose I should too.

I was Jack. Clueless, hopeful, caring Jack. :) Bless him.

And as my anniversary party, I'm nicking a meme from [livejournal.com profile] shadowbyrd (you should try it there too... Heehee!). Feel free to invite friends over and join in, I'm really looking forward to being inundated with comments on this one (subtle, huh?).

Stump the writer!

A -- go to the list of my fic (see my fic tags - the Torchwood fic is listed here, since the individuals might be a bit easy, but do feel free) and pick out a line or two from one of my stories. (Must be a full line, please -- no sentence fragments or speech tags or other such nonsense.)
B -- I will respond with which story of mine I think it's from.
C -- A drabble to anyone who stumps me.

:) Simple and fun. Bring it on!

EDIT: Yike. This may have been a bad idea - I keep losing! I now owe [livejournal.com profile] dr_is_in, [livejournal.com profile] joulez217 and [livejournal.com profile] karaokegal gift fic! Mind you, it did take quite a few goes. ;)
laligin: (Default)
If there are one or more people on your friends list who make your world a better place just because they exist, and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the Internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.
laligin: (Default)
Um. Just because...

Cadaver Calculator! )

Lovely.

(Oh, and I am still working on the Flavours and Jantolution and the like. Everything's just a bit... funny at the moment. Funny weird, not funny haha. I could elaborate, but a few of you already know the main thing, and I don't want to bore the rest of you.)
laligin: (Default)
Happily taken from [livejournal.com profile] hellenebright:

I will send a gift (or two) of some kind to the first 3 people who leave a comment to this post requesting to join this PIF exchange. I don't know what that gift will be yet, but I promise you will receive it within 365 days. The only thing you have to do in return is "pay it forward" by making a similar agreement in your journal.

The "gift" you send doesn't have to be handmade or even concrete. It can be fic, icons, whatever.

Most of you guys 'n' gals (mostly gals, I think, come to that...) know I'm happy to write any sort of request fic in a fandom I know well enough. :) And I have made icons and banners (well, a banner) too, so I can stretch that far... But I'm pathetically useless at actually drawing things. ;) And my voice sounds awful when recorded, so I'd hesitate to sing for you either... :P Otherwise, feel fairly free. Ask and ye shall receive and all that. ^_^

(Er. Yeah. EDIT TO ADD: I do have my limits when it comes to sex... Violence, not a problem. Crack, not a problem. AU, not a problem. NC-17 fic? I panic and flee the country... Bear that in mind? ^_^' (Silly Lali...))

Well now.

I think I've just about done everything I need to for the moment. (Except tidy my room, which is getting increasingly urgent...)

Exams, Leavers' Ball (I have some photos, working on getting them up), my night at Guides, supporting friends at the school's Rock Night...

Righty ho. Back to the writing. LoL here I come!

Oh yes, and:

Doctor Who Quote Meme!
See this, quote from Doctor Who.

Who looks at a screwdriver and thinks "Ooh, this could be a little more sonic"?

Jack, in The Doctor Dances

Oh. And because I like this one too and couldn't just quote once:

ROSE
Look at you, beaming away like you're Father Christmas!

DOCTOR
Who says I'm not, red-bicycle-when-you-were-twelve?

Ahem, yes. All done now. :)
laligin: (Default)
Er, I kind of nicked this from BeccaElizabeth. ^_^' We got the same name, though, which is... a little strange...

From Bellasianna again. ;)

Comment and I will:
1 - Tell you why I friended you.
2 - Associate you with a song/film.
3 - Tell a random fact about you.
4 - Tell a first memory about you.
5 - Associate you with a character/pairing.
6 - Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
7 - Tell you my favorite user pic of yours [if it pertains].
8 - In return, you must spread this disease in your LJ.

Ahem.

I'm on the computer, typing up and editing the last part of Jack's Capture, having finally (temporarily) defeated the headache I've had since last Thursday. Just to let you know that I am doing some work.

Before I go and post this.

Just 'cause.

What Is Your Battle Cry?

Rampaging on the fields, clutching a studded crowbar,

cometh Lali! And she gives a booming howl:

"I'm seriously going to blow a bullet-hole in you the size of God!!"

I'm totally not procrastinating. Honest.

I'm relaxing, having completed my English coursework and handed it all in and everything. How wonderful. I'll put the story up here before long. (It's Beowulf. In space. ;) )

For now, I'm catching up on Bellasianna's memes. Which I keep being tagged for and not getting round to passing on. Tcheh.

So.

Username meme )

Questionnaire )

Seven Songs Meme )

Another Questionnaire )

Right. That'll about do, I think. For the tagging? Anyone on my friends list who wants to can do any of these. I'm not going to force you, but hey, have fun. ;)

And just in case you want to do the questionnaires in the comments, I've screened them all. ^_^ Enjoy.

Stuffly.

Well, went to Glasgow to visit Retsi for her birthday. Had a good time, in general. Unfortunately she has two pet cats, though, so every waking minute spent in the house was torture, because I'm allergic and slowly stopped breathing the longer I was surrounded by fur. On the first night she tried to keep the cat out of her bedroom where I was sleeping on the floor, but the cat managed to pop the door open, run back in, and curl up to sleep on her bed. Which resulted in me sleeping for about an hour somewhere around 3 am, and spending the rest of the night wheezing and turning over and trying to force my throat to open up a little, because air is a good thing.

On the second night her mum shut the cats in the kitchen. Oh, bliss. Breathing and sleeping at the same time. Heaven, thou art made of oxygen.

Otherwise we went shopping round Glasgow, and she took me to all these cool shops... Including the Forbidden Planet. Where I got a third Torchwood poster. With everybody on. Made my day week month. Lovely, lovely. And I got a GIGANTIC mind warp poster, too. Decorating my room at LJMU is going to be so easy. ;)

Had a really nice meal out, then ran to the train station so she could take me to a gay bar and get IDed (she was enjoying being able to produce legal ID at a moment's notice, and was rather put out when they didn't bother to check her). It was a very nice gay bar, too. More like a mansion thrown open for a party (chaise longue, anyone? Settee? Roaring fires and high ceilings and vast mirrors and oh the pretty? :D) Quite liked the place, actually, despite the fact that people kept mistaking me for her girlfriend.

Oh, and I drank tap water all the time. Annoyed her a little, but it was good for keeping down the cat fur and was free.

And the fact that I made it back home with precisely 42p left in my purse probably made that a wise decision.

Most of my money went on transport. Buses and trains and taxis, oh my.

But yeah. It was quite good, enjoyed seeing her, she seemed pleased to see me, and the cats decided this morning that they loved me and wanted to show their affection by chirping at me and snuggling somewhat. Which, you know, would be great if I could actually touch them without scratching, sneezing and asphyxiating. They're still cute, though.

Anyway, here's another meme thing. From two people, though I'm only technically tagged by one. )

Ohno

*blush* I got tagged by BellaSianna (again) and I'll feel guilty if I don't...

What I'm meant to do now, see, is list my "Top Ten Celebrity Crushes". This is a problem for me, since I don't really obsess over anyone that much. (No, really. I don't. Really.)

So I'll just have to list ten nice men instead. If I can think of ten.

John Barrowman
Gareth David-Lloyd
Sean Bean
Johnny Depp

Um.

Am I forgetting obvious people I've said "Oh, he's nice..." about before? (Or freaking people out with the fact that most of the above are twice my age or more...)

David Wenham. He's quite nice.

Now I only need five more.

Oh. *slaps forehead*

Michael Shanks.
Joe Flanagan.

Um.

Think TV, Lali. What did you get on DVD for Christmas? Answer - shows from the 80s. Darn.

Paul Gross was quite nice in Due South. He hasn't changed too much by now, judging by the documentary I saw him in a little while ago.

*sighs* Most of my others looked great in TV shows in the 80s (or even the 60s - ah, David McCallum...) but are a bit grey for my liking these days. I'm strange, I know.

I still need two more. I'm not thinking straight.

Aha!

Julian Rhind-Tutt.

And... er... Someone else. There must be someone else. Who am I forgetting?

Oh, take your pick between Hugh Jackman (as Van Helsing, of course) and Viggo Mortensen. Or maybe Roger Federer, if tennis players count.

There. Now I get to tag five people! *evil laugh*

[livejournal.com profile] angel_kathryn, [livejournal.com profile] shirafuzzy, [livejournal.com profile] ashteth, [livejournal.com profile] shadowbyrd and [livejournal.com profile] beccaelizabeth, because I don't have that many LJ friends, [livejournal.com profile] ranamag wouldn't do it (:P Prove me wrong) and I'm going to run away and hide now.
