Thirty Flavours of Torchwood

Right, because I'm far too tempted, this is opening up much quicker than I'd planned. :D Thanks go to those who gave me prompts (and if you want to add some, do feel free - it's never too late).
Right. Here's how this works.
Here are Thirty Flavours of Torchwood.
You pick a prompt. Then, for that prompt, you pick any member of the Torchwood Team (past or present) or any such combination you please, add an extra condition or two if you want, and I write it for you in the comments.
The idea is that I write a drabble-size piece, but they may start at 100 words and head off into the sunset... And I will put the whole set in one post when they're done, for neatness' sake. :)
Crossovers are allowed, I suppose, but I'm not too well aware of many other fandoms (not even Buffy) so be cautious...
Eek. I hope this works. ^_^'

“Jack?” Ianto asked, with the others gone and Jack pacing by the workstations, reading Tosh’s report on one of their new artefacts.
“Mm?” Jack said distractedly, turning the page and doing his best to look like he was diligently keeping up with the paperwork, just like Ianto kept telling him to.
“Did you pick up the suits from the dry cleaners?” Ianto asked calmly, and Jack paused, then looked up and blinked at him.
For a moment, there was silence, and then he said, “Oh. Shit. Ianto, I’m sorry, I forgot. I was so busy with everything,” waving the report towards his office, and the stack of files and forms for him to sign, still sitting on his desk. He put on his best apologetic look, expecting Ianto to sigh and look disappointed and make him feel sickeningly guilty.
Instead Ianto smiled slightly, and said, “That’s alright. I thought you might be busy, so I got the firm to send them round instead. They’re upstairs. You did remember to book the table, though, didn’t you?”
Somehow Jack managed to find a whole new level for his apologetic look, asking nervously, “When did you tell me to do that, again?”
“A week ago,” Ianto said, eyebrows slightly raised, and Jack bit his lip, wincing.
“Never mind,” Ianto continued cheerfully. “I rang them up to check yesterday, and they still had a few tables free, so I did it instead. Did you decide what we’re going to see at the cinema afterwards?”
Jack cringed slightly, opening his mouth to provide another excuse in the desperate hope that Ianto would give up on the idea of them going out on a proper date, but Ianto was already pulling a leaflet for the cinema from his pocket, saying, “Not to worry, I’ve got the times here. You can pick one while we’re at dinner.”
“Yan, I…”
Ianto met his gaze, eyes glittering, and said, “Did you forget we were going out tonight, Jack? Did you miss the notes I left you with all these reminders? Have you already ordered in pizza for two? Did I see a DVD in your desk this afternoon that you were planning on watching with me tonight?”
Shuffling his feet and avoiding Ianto’s eyes, Jack shrugged one shoulder and said weakly, “I forgot. I’m really sorry…”
He looked up, a little surprised, when he heard Ianto hastily stifle a laugh.
“You’re not sorry at all,” Ianto told him, fighting a losing battle against a smile. “You’ve been against this date since I first mentioned it.”
Jack hesitated, wrong-footed and knowing he’d lost the apologetic look in favour of a far guiltier expression.
“You really don’t want to go, do you?” Ianto asked softly, and Jack shrugged again, looking back down at the floor and muttering, “You want to.”
“I thought as much,” Ianto said, putting the leaflet back in his pocket and moving closer to Jack. “So isn’t it a good thing I rang the restaurant this morning and cancelled again?”
Jack looked up, startled, just as Ianto plucked Tosh’s report from his hands, saying, “You can sort these later. And trust me, I will make you.”
“But you wanted to go out,” Jack said, blinking at him as he put the papers aside and plucked at Jack’s braces instead.
“No,” he smiled. “I wanted to spend some time with you. And you’ve just done your best to make sure we can have a nice night in, rather than having to go out anywhere. Well done.”
“Oh,” Jack said, and slowly started to grin. “How very efficient of me.”

Date: 2007-07-02 11:42 am (UTC)I love the fact that Ianto knows Jack well enough to spot the danger signs and then act on them in such a way that he both gets what he wants and doesn't just accede to Jack's wishes. He outsmarts his lover, and that's got to be fun for Ianto!
I really enjoyed this. Thank you. Once they're all done you should do a compiled journal entry with links to each story.

Date: 2007-07-02 11:47 am (UTC)I like Ianto being devious and cunning... ^_^
And yes, I will be doing a proper entry with links to them all when they're done. Only 20 or so left to go... Eheh.
