Right, because I'm far too tempted, this is opening up much quicker than I'd planned. :D Thanks go to those who gave me prompts (and if you want to add some, do feel free - it's never too late).

Right. Here's how this works.

Here are Thirty Flavours of Torchwood.

You pick a prompt. Then, for that prompt, you pick any member of the Torchwood Team (past or present) or any such combination you please, add an extra condition or two if you want, and I write it for you in the comments.

The idea is that I write a drabble-size piece, but they may start at 100 words and head off into the sunset... And I will put the whole set in one post when they're done, for neatness' sake. :)

Crossovers are allowed, I suppose, but I'm not too well aware of many other fandoms (not even Buffy) so be cautious...

Eek. I hope this works. ^_^'

#2 Ianto, with comforting Jack at the end. Something like using a real lift...

:) That works quite nicely with my Claustrophobic!Jack from one of my other fics. I can certainly do that.

Eeh. This one ran away a bit. 650 words... During series one. :)

Next Time I'll Take the Stairs

Ianto adjusted his tie nervously, counting slowly towards a hundred and breathing in and out on the even numbers. The lift would reach the lower level of the Hub before he could get to fifty – he’d done this often enough to know that. He was usually just counting forty-six or seven when the door opened, and he could step quickly out into a bigger space, far less confined, and add another successful trip to his list. With each one it got that little bit easier next time.

He’d just reached twenty-nine when the lift shuddered, and stopped. The lights flickered, but didn’t go out.

For a moment, wide-eyed, he stayed precisely where he was and didn’t dare breathe, in the hope that it was just a temporary glitch and the lift would get going again any second.

Nothing happened.

He was halfway towards raising his hand to his headset when he remembered that Tosh had gone out on a recovery mission with Jack and Gwen. He hesitated, but the lift was tiny even at the best of times, and he was suddenly very afraid that he’d run out of air very soon.

“Owen?”

There was a pause, and then, “Problem, teaboy?”

Fighting to keep his voice level, and doing his best not to crumple the file he was holding, Ianto said, “The lift’s stuck.”

“What do you expect me to do?” Owen asked him, sounding bored, and Ianto said, through gritted teeth, “You could try getting me out, for a start.”

Owen sniggered, then said, “I’ll give it a go,” and turned off his headset. Ianto was left on his own in the lift, well aware that there wasn’t even enough room to stretch out his arms.

He’d backed into a corner before he realised it, dropping the file and shivering, forgetting to count and keep his breathing controlled. It already felt hotter and closer.

~*~

Tosh and Gwen were both giggling at one of Jack’s stories when they all stepped down from the paving-stone lift and returned to their workstations. As Jack wandered past Owen (who was lying on the couch reading a magazine) to have a look at their new artefact in his office, Owen called to Tosh, “Lift got stuck while you were out. I couldn’t get it moving again. Thought you should deal with it.”

Something about the smirk evident in his voice had Jack turning and asking, “And?”

“Ianto’s in it,” Owen said casually, turning the page in his magazine.

Jack ripped it from his hands, Tosh already hurrying to override the lift controls from her computer and get it moving.

“How long did you leave him in there?” Jack asked Owen, voice quiet but brimming with fury.

Owen shrugged, reaching past Jack to pick up another magazine from the coffee table, saying, “Dunno. Half an hour, I think.”

Jack threw the magazine and the alien device at him, and dashed to open the bars and the cog door as the lift reached the ground at last. The door slid open, and he stepped in, grabbing Ianto’s arms and hauling him to his feet and out, dragging him into the open space of the Hub’s centre. Ianto clung to him, eyes squeezed shut, until Jack talked him into breathing more calmly and looking around to prove that he was safe again.

“Sorry,” Ianto whispered eventually, pulling away from Jack a little, but Jack held on to him, and said quietly, “It’s okay. I know what it’s like.”

Startled, Ianto stared at him, and Jack murmured, “I don’t go in that lift on my own. Trust me. I know.

Ianto nodded, and Jack let him go, asking, “Are you alright now?”

“I think so,” Ianto told him, then added, “But one of these days, I swear I’m going to end up shooting Owen.”

Jack grinned at him, and patted his shoulder, saying quietly, “Consider your permission granted.”

Poor Ianto! But I loved Jack being angry at Owen, and comforting and understanding Ianto.

“Consider your permission granted.”
Yeah!

I like this ficlet.

Ehee. Thank you most kindly. :) I didn't really mean to write Evil!Owen (honest!), it just kind of happened that way. XD

I'm glad you like. Not exactly short, though. Lali must try harder. ^_^

Being claustophobic myself (hence the reason I chose that one!) I think you captured it very well!

Thank you. :) That means a lot to me - I try and write these things realistically, but since I don't know it myself, it's more difficult...
