Scenic Route

It’s a slow, slow day, and when the fifth argument between Owen and Tosh is really hitting its stride, Ianto watches Jack snap.

He storms out of his office, grabbing his coat on the way, and shouts, “Ianto, with me.”

Ianto quite literally drops everything (only on the coffee table, though, and it’s not as if the expense reports are fragile) and leaps to obey, hastening after Jack as Gwen looks round and asks hurriedly, “Wait, where are you going?”

“There’s a train trapped in the sidings over by Swansea,” Jack tells her, still moving for the door and drawing Ianto into his wake. “Heavy fluff from Saturn’s formed an impenetrable casing around the driver’s brain. We’ll be back as soon as we’ve chipped it off.”

Ianto bites the inside of his cheek and manages to keep a straight face as the cog door rolls shut behind them, cutting off the others’ confused protests and giving him and Jack time to escape into the lift. There’s silence as they head up and out, then Ianto leads the way to his car rather than the SUV, and waits until Jack’s in beside him and putting on his seatbelt before he asks, “So, where are we going?”

Jack gives him an innocent look, and Ianto shakes his head, smiling slightly as he starts the engine and pulls out.

“You’ve been watching my Bill Bailey DVDs again,” he notes, and Jack relaxes at last, settling back and grinning at him.

“You know, I can’t believe they fell for that,” he says thoughtfully, and Ianto rolls his eyes.

“I can’t believe you tried it. What next? Ewoks stampeding Cardiff Castle? Klingons in Newport?”

Jack shrugs, and closes his eyes as Ianto tucks the car into the flow of traffic leaving the city.

“Sometimes I figure they’d believe me.”

“Only for a second,” Ianto promises him, then asks again, “Where are we going?”

“You choose,” Jack tells him. “Somewhere different.”

“You need a change of scenery,” Ianto agrees, and adjusts his course accordingly. “I’ll find you somewhere with a nice view.”

Jack opens his eyes and turns his head to look at him, and says easily, “The best view Wales has to offer is the one I brought with me.”

“Flirt,” Ianto says, blushing. But he smiles all the same.

^_^ One of Jack's main aims in life is to find a way to completely rule out the need for paperwork...

*grin* Glad you liked! Thanke. (:
