Summary: Tosh makes a breakthrough, and for once everyone's quick to congratulate her...
A/N: A present for Beccaelizabeth, who is one of the least useless people I know, and asked for happy fic, with hugs. ;)
Congratulations and Celebrations
Tosh gave a cheer, bouncing in her computer chair with delight, and telling an enquiring Owen, “I just got Kalmarian correlated in the translations! And that sorted out the syntax for Tlethanian, as well!”
“Well done,” Owen said, with surprising sincerity, and leapt up from his chair to go over, pull Tosh to her feet, and give her a congratulatory hug. Tosh hugged him back tightly, gleefully telling him all about how this breakthrough would help her with at least three other languages from the archives as soon as she started inputting all of the available data, and Owen patted her on the back before letting go of her at last.
Beaming at him, Tosh turned back towards her computer chair, just as Gwen reached the top of the stairs, asking, “What’s the celebration for?”
“Tosh got two languages added into the translation programme,” Owen told her, and Gwen bounded over to hug Tosh as well, crying, “That’s brilliant! Well done!”
Owen hugged them both, the three of them coming very close to jumping up and down together as Tosh told them excitedly, “This makes everything so much easier! It’s all downhill from here!”
“What’s going on?”
They separated to find Ianto putting a tray down on the coffee table, with a mug for each of them.
“Thanks, Ianto!” Gwen squealed, flinging her arms around his neck. Awkwardly, looking a little bemused, he hugged her back, and then she turned and grabbed Tosh’s arm to drag her into the hug as well. Owen joined in a few moments later, and Ianto couldn’t deny he felt a whole lot more appreciated when they stepped back again.
Jack wandered out of his office, grinning, and was nearly knocked off his feet when all four of his employees simultaneously turned and tackled him. He ended up with an arm around Ianto and Owen, and Tosh and Gwen cuddling him from the centre of the group hug.
After a second, Owen said, “You wouldn’t be using alien tech on us, would you?”
“What makes you think that?” Jack asked, sounding far too innocent.
“I’d never be hugging you otherwise,” Owen pointed out.
“Just a second,” Ianto said, digging in Jack’s pocket and pulling out a device he recognised from London. “Yep, alien tech. Promotes good feeling – he’s only got it on a low setting, thank God.”
“What happens on a higher setting?” Gwen asked, and Jack grinned at Ianto over her head, saying, “I was saving that for a rainy day…”
“Manipulative bastard,” Tosh said, ruining the effect by happily cuddling closer to him.
Owen sighed, snuggling up against Jack, and said, “Turn the bloody thing off, Ianto.”
“It’s a little difficult with one hand,” Ianto lied, flicking the switch behind Jack’s back. He smirked into Jack’s shoulder when nobody moved, and started taking bets with himself on how long it would be before any of the others even tried to step away.
Somehow, he didn’t think Jack would be complaining any time soon.

Date: 2007-08-22 04:25 pm (UTC)Ianto is so wonderfully mischevious. And of course he has no qualms about staying snuggled up to Jack.

Date: 2007-08-22 08:03 pm (UTC)And of course not. Mind you, neither do the others. They'd just rather nobody else knew they don't mind...
Glad you liked it, thanke! ^_^

Usually Owen is allergic to hugs. No, really. This whole experience brought him out in a rash.

It's probably a good thing I'm not a believer in making all of my fics self-consistent, otherwise this and the Jack/Owen just don't make sense! :D (And pah, he's a Doctor, he can fix that himself, I'm sure. ;) )
