Oh I agree with you, I think people can do what they like with fiction I guess, although some put author notes to say it is canon, when really it is just their idea of what is going on. I find it very odd when they write metas that claim things that really aren't there in canon at all. Like J/I are in an open relationship, again, where is the evidence for that? I just don't think we know these things. They may well be, but we haven't seen it. Although fascinating that GDL said at the recent con that Ianto does believe they are monogamous, and knows he has to exert control there. It is his character after all!
