Reminisce If You Must, But Don't Forget About Now

“So she was blonde and… what was it, nineteen?”

The Doctor, walking into the atrium of the TARDIS, turned on his heel and walked straight back out before Jack and Martha saw him. Admittedly, he’d been slow to stop talking about Rose, but now the tables were turned and someone else was doing the reminiscing, he’d just about had enough of it.

Jack glanced over his shoulder, sitting next to Martha on the double seat, with his feet up on the TARDIS consoles, and said, “I think that might have done it.”

Martha glanced back as well, and asked, “Do you think he’ll stop mentioning her at every opportunity, then?”

Grinning, Jack said, “With a bit of luck, he’ll even remember we exist.”

Martha smiled at him, then looked back quickly, hissing, “He’s coming back,” and then saying, louder, “So you were dancing on an invisible spaceship.”

“In the middle of the Blitz,” Jack confirmed, hearing the Doctor growl in exasperation and leave again.

“Why?” Martha asked, and he jumped up and grabbed her hand, pulling her to her feet and saying, “Because I like dancing,” as he swept her into a waltz, pleased by her yelp of surprise, and wondering if he’d managed to distract her enough to forget about Rose as well.

“I especially like dancing with pretty girls,” he grinned, and she laughed, and said for him, “And pretty boys.”

“Pretty aliens,” he suggested, twirling them around the TARDIS’s main column.

“Pretty robots?” she asked, and now he laughed, saying, “You know, that’s one thing I never tried. Although there was this time on Byara Two, when…”
