Doubts
Jack leant back on the couch, and, bitterly, asked the air, “Why do I even bother?”
Materialising out of the midnight darkness, Ianto sat next to him. After a moment, he said, “Why do you bother what?”
“Anything,” Jack sighed. “I keep trying to do the right thing, and save as many people as I can, and somehow I always end up being the bad guy.”
Eventually, Ianto said softly, “You keep trying because you know someone has to. And it is the right thing.”
Jack didn’t know how to tell him he was wrong.
Despite that, somehow, it helped.

I think you’ve portrayed that darkness Jack sometimes feels wonderfully.
And that Ianto tries to help him is just lovely.
